The Annual Higher Secondary Examination (AHSE) conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Examination (CHSE) in Odisha has recorded a pass percentage of 85.85% for 2026, marking a 3% increase from the previous year's 82.77%. The results were announced by School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond on Wednesday.
Girls Outperform Boys Across All Streams
In a notable achievement, female students outperformed their male counterparts in all four streams: arts, science, commerce, and vocational education. Minister Gond highlighted that students in all streams performed better than last year and confirmed that no results were withheld this time.
Examination Participation and Absenteeism
Close to 3.98 lakh students appeared for the examination out of 4.01 lakh registered candidates, with at least 10,000 more participants compared to the previous year. However, 3,533 students remained absent during the exams.
Stream-Wise Performance
Among the streams, science recorded the highest pass percentage at 88.82%, followed by commerce (88.07%), arts (84.5%), and vocational education (77.62%). The vocational education stream showed remarkable improvement, with a 17.05% increase from last year's 60.57% pass rate.
District Toppers
- Science: Balasore district achieved the highest pass percentage of 96.63%.
- Commerce: Boudh district recorded a perfect 100% pass rate.
- Vocational Education: Nabarangpur district also achieved 100% pass percentage.
- Arts: Sambalpur district posted the highest pass rate at 89.48%.
Focus on Academically Weaker Students
School and Mass Education Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary N Thirumala Naik stated that special attention was given to academically weaker students through remedial classes, similar to the approach taken for Class X examinations.
Revised Question Pattern Contributes to Improvement
CHSE Chairman Mrunal Kanti Das attributed the improved results to the revised question pattern introduced in 2025. Under the new system, students write an 80-mark theory examination, while 20 marks are allotted for internal assessment, replacing the earlier 100-mark written exam. Das noted that over 6,000 students scored 90% and above this year, compared to around 2,000 in 2025.

CHSE Controller of Exams Prasanta Kumar Parida announced that digital copies of mark sheets will be available for download from DigiLocker starting May 21. Students can access them by entering their roll number and registration number on the websites results.odisha.gov.in and results.digilocker.gov.in.
