Ernakulam SSLC Pass Percentage Hits 99.61%

Kochi: Ernakulam district has recorded an impressive performance in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations this year, achieving an overall pass percentage of 99.61. Out of the 30,578 students who appeared for the examination across the district, 30,458 qualified for higher studies.

Decline in A+ Grades Despite High Pass Rate

Despite the high success rate, schools across the district witnessed a decline in the number of students securing A+ grades in all subjects. Many teachers attributed this to comparatively lower scores in mathematics under the revised examination pattern.

Gender Performance Breakdown

Girls outperformed boys in the district-level results. Of the 15,715 boys who appeared, 15,649 passed, while among 14,863 girls, 14,809 were declared successful. A total of 2,203 students secured A+ grades in all subjects, including 1,553 girls and 650 boys.

Institutional Performance

The district recorded strong institutional performances, with 260 schools achieving a 100% pass result. Among government schools, 81 out of 101 achieved complete success. In the aided sector, 133 of 177 schools recorded full pass percentages, while 46 out of 52 unaided schools also achieved 100% results.

Teacher Observations on Revised Pattern

Annimma V O, headmistress of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, noted that the statewide decline in full A+ scores affected her school as well, especially due to lower-than-expected marks in mathematics. "Among the students who appeared for the examination, only one student was not eligible for higher studies, while 10 students secured A+ in all subjects," she said. She added that the revised curriculum and changes in the examination pattern presented a new experience for both teachers and students, which may have contributed to the reduction in top grades across the state.

A teacher from Government Higher Secondary School, Edappally, also observed that many students received comparatively lower grades in mathematics.
