The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has commenced the registration process for the June session of the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) 2026. This examination is a mandatory screening test for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) who have completed their primary medical education abroad and wish to practice medicine in India.
FMGE 2026 Overview
The FMGE is conducted twice a year, in June and December, serving as a qualifying examination. Candidates must secure the minimum required marks to be eligible for registration with medical authorities in India. The exam is computer-based and follows a standardized pattern based on the MBBS curriculum.
NBEMS FMGE Exam Pattern
FMGE 2026 will consist of 300 multiple-choice questions divided into two parts: Part A and Part B. Each part has a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

NBEMS FMGE Syllabus Overview
The syllabus for FMGE is based on the MBBS curriculum prescribed under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations. It broadly covers both pre-clinical and clinical subjects.
The pre- and para-clinical section carries 100 marks and includes subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine. The clinical section carries 200 marks and includes major subjects like Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Community Medicine, along with allied fields such as Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology, and Anaesthesia. The paper is designed to test both theoretical understanding and applied clinical knowledge.
