For JEE Advanced AIR 1 Shubham Kumar, success was not an unexpected outcome. The 18-year-old from Gaya, Bihar, had been preparing for the entrance exam for two years and scored an impressive 330 out of 360 marks. While Kumar's achievement is remarkable, the journey behind it is equally inspiring.
Background and Family Support
Shubham Kumar comes from a humble background. His father, Shiv Kumar, runs a hardware business in Gaya, while his mother, Kanchan Devi, is a homemaker. Shubham's father mentioned that he had expected a strong performance from his son after witnessing his determination. However, the topper credits his success to the trust of his teachers and the sacrifices made by his family. "The biggest reason for my success was the trust of my teachers and the sacrifices of my family," Shubham told PTI after the results.
Study Secrets and Daily Routine
According to Shubham, he studied on his own for nearly six to eight hours daily. He revised topics taught in class on the same day and practiced questions regularly. Speaking to NDTV, he said, "I focused more on weak topics. There was pressure at times, but I turned it into motivation. I stayed focused on my goal and believed in myself."
Avoiding Distractions
One of the most powerful steps Shubham took to avoid distractions was imposing a self-ban on social media. He used his phone only for studies and calling his parents. To prepare for the entrance exam, Shubham moved to Kota when he was in class 11th and joined a private coaching institute. He also chose to avoid negative news and did not let it affect him. "When I was stressed, I would meditate for five to ten minutes," he added.
Motivation and Future Plans
The proud topper emphasized the importance of willpower and an inner urge to achieve goals. "There should be a willpower, an urge from inside that we have to do something so that we can achieve our goal. I turned every challenge into motivation. My entire focus was on my goal," he said. Shubham now aspires to pursue a BTech degree in Computer Science from IIT Bombay.
Shubham Kumar's story is a testament to hard work, discipline, and the support of family and teachers. His journey from a small town in Bihar to becoming the JEE Advanced topper serves as an inspiration for countless aspirants across the country.
