Maharashtra HSC Exams Commence with Over 13 Lakh Students Participating

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in Maharashtra are set to begin on Tuesday, with a massive turnout of more than 13 lakh students expected across the state. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has implemented stringent measures to ensure the integrity of the exams, focusing heavily on preventing copying and malpractices.

Extensive CCTV Surveillance and Vigilance Measures

In a significant move to curb cheating, the board has equipped the majority of exam classrooms with CCTV cameras. Out of the 61,484 classrooms being used across 3,387 exam centers, over 85% are now under continuous video surveillance. Nandkumar Bedse, the acting chairperson of the Maharashtra State Board, emphasized that for the remaining centers without CCTV coverage, the board has arranged staff-switching protocols to maintain strict vigilance during the examinations.

The board has proactively identified exam centers where copying incidents are more likely to occur and has deployed special inspection teams to monitor these locations closely. Schools serving as exam centers have been issued a stern warning: any reported malpractice will result in severe consequences.

Strict Actions and Student Guidelines

"Schools functioning as exam centers have been warned that if any copy case is found on their premises, their approval to function as an exam center will be revoked from the next academic year," stated Bedse. This zero-tolerance policy aims to deter any attempts at cheating and uphold the credibility of the examination process.

Students have been instructed to adhere to strict timing guidelines:

  • Reach exam centers on time, as late entry will not be permitted under any circumstances.
  • Be seated at least 30 minutes before the exam begins to ensure a smooth start.

Additionally, the board has continued its practice from the previous year of not distributing question papers early. Instead, students will receive an extra 10 minutes at the end of the exam to read through the paper, a measure designed to reduce pre-exam anxiety and promote fairness.

Support Systems for Students

Recognizing the stress associated with board exams, the Maharashtra State Board has established helplines staffed with professional counsellors to provide emotional and psychological support to students. Divisional offices have also shared contact details of teachers who can assist with academic doubts, ensuring that students have access to reliable guidance.

To combat misinformation, the board has advised students to follow only its official social media pages for updates and to avoid spreading or believing rumors online. This step is crucial in maintaining a focused and stress-free environment for all examinees.

With these comprehensive measures in place, the Maharashtra HSC exams are poised to be conducted with heightened security and support, aiming to provide a fair and conducive testing atmosphere for over 13 lakh students across the state.
