As part of heightened security arrangements for the NEET re-examination, authorities in Tirunelveli conducted a helicopter trial run at the Armed Reserve ground on Tuesday to ensure the safe and transparent transport of question papers.
Background of the Re-examination
The re-examination is scheduled for June 21 following allegations of question paper leakage, which led to the cancellation of the earlier test held last month. The examination will be conducted from 2pm to 5.15pm.
Enhanced Security Measures
To prevent any further question paper leak, elaborate security measures have been put in place. Officials said question papers will be flown from Delhi to Madurai and subsequently transported to examination centres in southern Tamil Nadu, using Indian Army helicopters on the morning of the exam.
Mock Drill Details
In preparation, an Indian Army helicopter landed at the Armed Reserve ground as part of a mock drill. Air Force officials and security personnel took part in the exercise, during which standard operating procedures for the secure transfer of sealed question papers were tested. The operation is being coordinated by the department of posts.
Official Clarification
Officials clarified that the exercise was purely a security rehearsal aimed at ensuring that the NEET re-examination is conducted without any irregularities. Both the Union and the state government are jointly overseeing the arrangements, they said.
