NEET Re-exam on June 21: Union Minister Directs States to Ensure Basic Amenities Amid Heatwave
NEET Re-exam June 21: Minister Orders Amenities Amid Heatwave

Nagpur: With a severe heatwave sweeping across the Vidarbha region and temperatures expected to remain high even in the coming month, students preparing for the NEET (UG) re-examination scheduled on June 21 face an additional challenge. However, some relief comes in the form of directives from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has instructed authorities to ensure basic amenities such as drinking water and coolers at examination centres.

Minister's Directives to State Governments

On Monday, Pradhan wrote to all chief ministers, lieutenant governors, and administrators across the country, seeking their cooperation for the smooth conduct of the re-examination. In his letter, the minister urged state governments to coordinate with local authorities to prevent any inconvenience to candidates due to the prevailing weather conditions.

"In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, I request you to kindly issue appropriate instructions to the district authorities and all schools, colleges, universities, and other institutions hosting the examination in your State/UT to ensure the availability of essential basic amenities for the convenience of candidates. These may include safe drinking water, adequate seating arrangements, functional fans/coolers, clean washrooms, shaded waiting areas, uninterrupted electricity supply, and portable toilets, wherever required," Pradhan wrote.

Transportation and Student Welfare

The minister also called upon state governments to ensure adequate transportation facilities for candidates on the day of the examination, emphasizing that the interests and well-being of students were of paramount importance. He stressed that every effort must be made to create a conducive environment for the examinees.

Background of the Re-examination

The NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination on June 21 follows the National Testing Agency's (NTA) decision earlier this month to cancel the examination originally conducted on May 3, following allegations of a paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations.

Key Details for Candidates

  • Candidates will not be required to register afresh or pay any additional fee.
  • Fees already paid for the earlier examination will be refunded.
  • Students are advised to stay hydrated and plan their travel to the examination centres well in advance.

Local authorities are working to implement the minister's directives, ensuring that all centres are equipped with necessary facilities. Candidates are encouraged to check the official NTA website for any further updates regarding the examination.
