The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced four new examination city options in the North-Eastern region for candidates appearing in the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) June 2026. This decision was made due to the limited availability of examination centres in the North-Eastern states.
New Exam Cities Added
Candidates can now select the newly added cities while making corrections in their application forms. The new cities are:
- Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh (AL03)
- Kakching, Manipur (MN04)
- Bishnupur, Manipur (MN05)
- Cherrapunji, Meghalaya (MG02)
According to NTA, candidates from Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim can also choose exam cities available in neighbouring North-Eastern states through the correction facility.
Application Correction Window
NTA has already opened the UGC NET June 2026 application correction window. Candidates can make changes to their forms until May 28, 2026. The following details can be edited:
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Category
- Sub-category
- Examination city centre
However, changes to mobile number, email address, photograph, and signature will not be allowed.
Examination Schedule and Subjects
The UGC NET June 2026 examination will be conducted from June 22 to June 30 across the country in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. This year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has added two new subjects: Forestry and Statistics, bringing the total number of subjects to 87.
About UGC NET
UGC NET is conducted twice every year, usually in June and December, to determine the eligibility of candidates for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programmes in Indian universities and colleges. The national-level examination is conducted by NTA on behalf of UGC.
