Over 6.78 Lakh Register for CBSE Class 10 Second Exam

Nagpur: More than a quarter of students who appeared for the CBSE Class 10 first board examination earlier this year have signed up for the second board examination scheduled from May 15 to 21.

Massive Registration for Second Exam

Of the 24.7 lakh students who appeared in the first exam, over 6.78 lakh have registered for the second — a participation rate of roughly 27%. This development underscores the scale at which students are either looking to clear compartment, improve scores, or both, under the CBSE's two-board exam system introduced this year.

Subject-Wise Trends

Among subjects, Science and Mathematics — both standard and basic — have the highest number of candidates, reflecting the pressure students face in these two areas. Social Science and English Language and Literature also figure among top subjects by candidate count.

Breakdown of Candidates

Regular candidates account for the bulk of registrations. Among them, students appearing purely for improvement form the largest group, followed by those in the compartment category and a smaller cohort seeking to clear compartment while improving in other subjects. The date sheet for the second exam was released on the CBSE's website on April 23.

Result Timeline

Final passing and merit certificates will be issued only after the end of June, when the board expects to announce results.
