PSEB Class X Results: Ludhiana Tops Merit List But Govt Schools Lag

The Class X Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) results have brought mixed outcomes for Ludhiana. While the district produced the highest number of merit-list students among all 23 districts of Punjab, only one of those students came from a government school. This disparity has raised serious concerns about the quality of education in state-run institutions.

Merit List Highlights

A total of 38 students from Ludhiana made it to the merit list, comprising 27 girls and 11 boys. However, 37 of these students were from private schools. The sole government school student in the merit list is Lavanya Jain, who studied at Shaheed Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon Govt School in Roorka Kalan, Ludhiana. She secured 628 marks out of 650 and ranked 17th in the state.

Overall Pass Percentage

Despite topping the merit list count, Ludhiana recorded the lowest overall pass percentage in Punjab at 89.20%. It was the only district with a pass percentage below 90%. This poor performance has prompted district education authorities to review the effectiveness of government initiatives aimed at improving education quality.

Government Initiatives Under Scrutiny

Several state schemes, including Sikhya Kranti and the establishment of Schools of Eminence, have been implemented to enhance learning outcomes in government schools. Ludhiana has about 16 Schools of Eminence, yet none of their students made it to the merit list. The government has also provided grants and sponsored foreign exposure visits for school officials, but these efforts have not translated into improved results.

Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary) Amandeep Singh confirmed the figures and stated that a review meeting will be conducted to assess the situation. “Officials will examine where changes are required and what steps need to be taken to improve results of students studying in government schools in the district,” he said.

District Education Officer (Secondary) Dimple Madaan was unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts.
