Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday asked students if they were also called terrorists amid the ongoing controversy over the CBSE board exams. The remark came during a virtual interaction with students from across the country, where he discussed the challenges faced by the education sector during the pandemic.
Rahul Gandhi's Question to Students
During the interaction, Rahul Gandhi asked the students: 'Were you also called terrorists?' This was in reference to the recent controversy where some students were allegedly called terrorists by school authorities for protesting against the CBSE's decision to hold exams. The Congress leader expressed solidarity with the students and criticized the government's handling of the education system.
CBSE Exam Controversy
The CBSE has been facing criticism from students and parents over its decision to conduct board exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Many students have protested against the exams, citing safety concerns and lack of preparedness. The issue has also been politicized, with opposition parties accusing the government of ignoring the plight of students.
Rahul Gandhi's question has sparked a fresh debate, with the BJP accusing him of politicizing the issue. The Congress, however, defended his remarks, saying he was only highlighting the plight of students who are being harassed for expressing their concerns.
The CBSE, on its part, has maintained that the exams are necessary to ensure academic continuity and that all safety measures are being taken. However, the controversy continues to simmer, with many students and parents demanding a rethink of the exam schedule.
