Government school teachers in Jaipur remain uncertain about the reopening of schools as the education department has yet to issue an official order extending the summer vacation, despite a statement from the education minister's office indicating that holidays will run until June 29.
Confusion Over Academic Calendar
Under the academic calendar, schools are scheduled to reopen on June 22. However, teachers report that they are still being assigned work during the break, highlighting administrative confusion and raising concerns about planning for both staff and students.
Agreement Yet to Be Formalized
A formal order is still pending, even though Education Minister Madan Dilawar reached an agreement with teachers' representatives under the banner of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh, Rajasthan. According to the agreement document, schools would reopen on June 29 instead of June 21, and the earlier provision of two holidays for heads of institutions would be restored.
Teacher Unions Express Frustration
Vipin Prakash Sharma, state president of the Rajasthan Primary and Secondary Teachers' Association, expressed his frustration: “While orders are being issued for teachers to prepare school premises and surroundings for a plantation drive by June 20 — which falls during summer vacations — no clarity is being provided regarding the extension of the summer break. Teachers are being tasked with work that no one else can do, and our requests are not being heard.”
Ranjeet Meena, state president of the Rajasthan Shikshak Sangh (Ekikrit), questioned the process: “When the decision to start the current academic session from April 1 was discussed, all teacher organizations were invited for consultations. However, regarding the holiday decision — following protests by all teachers — only one organization was called in, and a decision was reached surreptitiously.” He also questioned the delay in releasing an official order if an agreement had indeed been reached.
The ongoing uncertainty has left teachers and students in a state of limbo, with many calling for immediate clarity from the education department.
