Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has postponed the semester examinations for second, third, and fourth year engineering students that were scheduled to begin this week. The decision comes after a protest by students and political groups demanding the delay until re-evaluation results are announced.
Revised Examination Schedule
According to university officials, the Second Year Engineering (SE) Semester III examinations under the 2019 pattern, originally scheduled from May 20 to 25, will now be held after June 11. The Third Year Engineering (TE) Semester V examinations, earlier set for May 21 to 26, have been postponed to after June 17. Meanwhile, the Fourth Year Engineering (BE) Semester VII examinations, initially slated from May 20 to 25, will now be conducted after June 15.
The university has stated that separate revised timetables will be published on its official website. Colleges have been instructed to immediately inform students and faculty members about the changes.
Reason for Postponement
The postponement follows a protest held on Tuesday by engineering students, the Youth Congress, and the National Students' Union of India (NSUI). The demonstrators demanded that the university delay the examinations because re-evaluation results for previous exams had not yet been released. “The re-evaluation result needs to be out first before the examination schedule is announced. Hence we protested,” said Akhsay Jain, Maharashtra Youth Congress media president.
The university has not yet announced a specific date for the release of re-evaluation results but has assured that the revised exam schedule will provide sufficient time for students to prepare once the results are published.
