The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially commenced the registration process for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill approximately 12,256 vacancies across various Group B and Group C posts in central government ministries, departments, and organizations. The online application process began on May 21 and will remain open until June 22, 2026, at 11:00 PM. Candidates who have completed their graduation from a recognized university are eligible to apply for most posts under this recruitment drive.

SSC CGL 2026 Exam Schedule

The Tier-I examination is scheduled to be conducted between August and September 2026 in a computer-based mode. This preliminary stage is crucial for shortlisting candidates for subsequent rounds.

SSC CGL 2026 Tier-I Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The Tier-I examination will be an objective-type computer-based test comprising 100 questions for a total of 200 marks. The exam is divided into four sections, each containing 25 questions worth 50 marks. Candidates will have a total duration of one hour to complete the examination, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes applicable for each section. There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every incorrect answer.

General Intelligence and Reasoning Syllabus

This section assesses logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Questions may cover verbal and non-verbal reasoning topics, including analogies, similarities and differences, coding-decoding, number series, classification, syllogism, statement-conclusion, visual memory, decision-making, and relationship concepts. Candidates may also encounter questions on Venn diagrams, space visualization, space orientation, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and social intelligence.

General Awareness Syllabus

The General Awareness section evaluates a candidate's understanding of the world around them and current events. Topics may include current affairs, history, culture, geography, economics, scientific research, and general policy. Candidates should also prepare topics related to India and its neighboring countries. Regular reading of newspapers and keeping track of major national and international developments can significantly help in this section.

Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus

This section tests numerical ability and mathematical concepts generally studied up to the Class 10 level. Important topics include percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, time and distance, partnership, mixtures, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, and data interpretation. Candidates should also prepare topics such as graphs of linear equations, triangles, circles, polygons, cylinders, cones, spheres, histograms, bar diagrams, and pie charts.

English Comprehension Syllabus

This section evaluates a candidate's understanding of the English language and comprehension skills. Questions are expected to test grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, comprehension ability, and basic writing skills. Unlike other sections, the English Comprehension paper will be available only in English.
