The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the notification for the Stenographer Grade C and D Examination 2026, announcing approximately 731 vacancies across various government departments. The commission has clarified that this figure is provisional and may be revised based on departmental requirements.
Application Process
The online application process commenced on April 24 and will remain open until May 15 at 11 pm. Candidates can pay the application fee until May 16. A correction window will be available from May 20 to 21 for applicants to rectify any errors in their forms.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, candidates must have passed Class 12 from a recognized board. The age limit for Grade C posts is 18 to 30 years, while for Grade D posts it is 18 to 27 years. Age relaxation for reserved categories will apply as per government norms.
Selection Process
The selection process comprises two stages: a Computer-Based Test (CBT) followed by a skill test in stenography. The CBT will include questions from general intelligence, general awareness, and the English language, totaling 200 marks. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.
In the skill test, candidates will undergo a 10-minute dictation exercise. For Grade C, the required speed is 100 words per minute, while for Grade D, it is 80 words per minute.
Application Fee
The application fee is Rs 100 for general and OBC candidates. Women candidates, SC/ST applicants, persons with disabilities, and ex-servicemen are exempted from paying the fee.
Exam Schedule
The CBT is tentatively scheduled for July-August 2026.
