Vijayawada: A 17-year-old student, Kappala Yashwanth Kumar, who was studying second-year intermediate at Sri Chaitanya Gayathri Vedavyas Campus, died by suicide late on Thursday night. The incident occurred at the hostel on the campus premises in Kesarapalli, under the Gannavaram police station limits.
Details of the Incident
The victim hailed from Anantapur and was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room. According to Hanuman Junction Sub-Inspector Nagaraju, Yashwanth had scored 942 marks in his previous exams and was preparing for the second-year betterment examinations at the hostel. However, he became visibly disturbed after checking the AP EAPCET answer key on Thursday. Additionally, he had failed to clear the JEE Main examination and was upset that he had lost his only opportunity to secure better marks in EAPCET. He subsequently took the extreme step, as quoted from his classmates.
Aftermath and Tension
Mild tension prevailed for some time as the victim's parents blamed the college management for their son's death and demanded action against them. A scuffle broke out between the parents and college staff, prompting police intervention. A case has been registered, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
This tragic incident highlights the immense pressure students face during competitive examinations. It is a reminder for parents, educators, and peers to provide emotional support and seek help when needed.
