Rourkela: In a remarkable achievement, two students from Government High School, Kutra, in Sundargarh district have secured the first and second positions in the district in the Class X HSC examination, the results of which were declared on Saturday. Both students come from poor farming families, highlighting the power of determination and hard work.
District Topper and Runner-Up
The district topper, Sujit Tigga, a resident of Dheuladihi village under Gyanpalli panchayat in Kutra block, scored an impressive 575 marks out of a total of 600. Close on his heels, Selmona Lugun, from Kaelimunda Tikilipada village under Kaleimunda panchayat in the same block, secured 573 marks, missing the top spot by just two marks. Both students were felicitated at their school on Sunday, along with other high-performing students.
School's Stellar Performance
Significantly, 25 students from Government High School, Kutra, achieved A-1 grade, out of a total of 56 such students across the entire Sundargarh district. This underscores the school's commitment to academic excellence despite limited resources.
Stories of Dedication
Sujit Tigga, whose father is a farmer and mother a homemaker, studied at the school from Class VIII to X while residing in the school hostel. He maintained a rigorous study schedule, waking up daily from 4 am to 7 am and again from 6 pm to 9 pm. "Whenever I had any doubt, I asked the teachers. Hard work is the key to my success, but I also share the credit with my teachers, headmaster, and my parents who always motivated me," said Tigga, who aspires to pursue arts and become an IAS officer.
Similarly, Selmona Lugun also studied at the government high school from Class VIII to X while staying in the hostel. "I am very happy with my result. Apart from classroom studies, I studied for eight hours daily. The credit for my success goes to the teachers, headmaster, and my parents," said Lugun, who aims to study science and become a doctor.
