The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations has announced the Higher Secondary Certificate (Class 12) results for the 2025-2026 academic session, recording a pass percentage of 95.20 percent. This marks a marginal increase from the 95.03 percent pass rate achieved in the previous year.

Overall Performance and Key Statistics

Examinations were conducted from March 2 to March 26, 2026, across 3,412 centres in the state. A total of 7,91,654 students appeared for the exams, out of which 7,53,694 successfully cleared the board examinations. The number of absentees declined from 10,049 in 2025 to 7,874 in 2026.

Gender-wise Performance

Girls continued to outperform boys in the state board examinations. Female students registered a pass percentage of 97.00 percent, while boys recorded 93.19 percent. The gender gap widened slightly, with girls surpassing boys by 3.81 percentage points this year, compared to a 3.54 percent difference in 2025.

School Performance

Among the 7,536 Higher Secondary schools that participated, 2,639 schools achieved a 100 percent pass percentage. Additionally, 5,170 schools recorded pass percentages above 95 percent. Government schools also showed improvement, with 489 schools achieving a perfect pass rate and 1,572 schools surpassing the 95 percent mark.

By school type, private schools led with an overall pass percentage of 98.72 percent, followed by aided schools at 96.14 percent and government schools at 92.16 percent.

District Rankings

Erode district emerged as the top-performing district in Tamil Nadu with a pass percentage of 98.87 percent. Sivagangai and Kanyakumari secured the second and third positions, respectively. The top five districts are:

  • Erode: 98.87%
  • Sivagangai: 98.05%
  • Kanyakumari: 97.63%
  • Tirunelveli: 97.54%
  • Tiruchirappalli: 97.50%

In terms of government school performance, Erode again topped the list with 98.24 percent pass rate.

Subject-wise Centums

Computer science recorded the highest number of centums (perfect scores) in the state, with 6,945 students securing full marks. Accountancy followed with 1,946 centums.

Special Categories

Differently-abled students recorded a pass percentage of 76.92 percent, while jail inmates achieved 95.20 percent. Private candidates registered a pass percentage of 24.18 percent.

Supplementary Examination Schedule

The Directorate of Government Examinations announced that supplementary examinations for Class 12 students will be conducted from June 29 to July 7. Class 11 arrear examinations are scheduled from July 8 to July 16. Applications for supplementary examinations can be submitted between May 18 and June 2, while revaluation and retotalling applications for Class 12 and Class 11 arrear papers will be accepted from June 5 to June 8.
