In a significant procedural reform, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Civil Services Examination (CSE) Prelims 2026 provisional answer key before the completion of the final result process for the first time. Candidates who appeared for the examination can now access the answer key on the official website, upsc.gov.in. The commission has also launched a dedicated Question Paper Representation Portal for candidates wishing to challenge any answer.
Exam Overview
The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 was conducted on May 24 in two shifts across the country. This exam is held for recruitment to prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS). More than 8 lakh candidates appeared for the examination this year.

Objection Process
Candidates who are dissatisfied with any answer in the provisional key can submit objections through the online representation portal. While submitting challenges, candidates must upload supporting documents and explanations for their claims. Subject experts appointed by UPSC will review all objections before finalizing the answer key. The commission has clarified that the final answer key will be released after the completion of the entire examination cycle.
Major Procedural Reform
The early release of the provisional answer key is considered one of the biggest procedural reforms introduced by UPSC in recent years. Previously, candidates relied on unofficial answer keys from coaching institutes to estimate their scores. With the official provisional key, candidates can now assess their performance more accurately and begin preparing for the Mains examination without waiting for unofficial solutions.
