UPSC Aspirant Dies by Suicide in Lucknow After Exam

A 26-year-old UPSC aspirant allegedly died by suicide by jumping into the Gomti River from Pakka Pul in Lucknow’s Chowk area on Monday morning, police said. The incident occurred around 10:15 am, prompting immediate response from local authorities.

Police Response and Recovery

According to the police, information was received at around 10.15 am at Chowk police station. Soon after receiving the alert, police along with teams of the State Disaster Response Force and local divers fished out the body. The deceased was a resident of Alambagh area, said Chowk SHO Nagesh Upadhyay.

Family Statement

The youth’s mother, who is posted as vice-principal at a college in Hussainabad, told police that her son appeared in UPSC civil services examination on May 24 and was under severe mental stress after the exam reportedly did not go as expected. She expressed grief over the loss and urged authorities to address mental health issues among aspirants.

Details of the Incident

According to SHO Upadhyay, the youth left his two-wheeler near the Trauma Centre mortuary area before allegedly heading towards Pakka Pul. He then jumped into the river. No suicide note was recovered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.

The police have filed a case under relevant sections and are conducting a post-mortem examination. The incident has once again highlighted the immense pressure faced by competitive exam aspirants in India.
