MSU Clarifies Admission Process: GCAS Registration and Entrance Test Both Mandatory
MSU: GCAS Registration and Entrance Test Both Mandatory

The Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) in Vadodara has issued a circular to clarify the admission procedure for programmes requiring entrance tests, addressing confusion among students regarding the multiple-layer process involving the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal and the university's own admission system.

Key Clarifications

The circular states that merely registering on the GCAS portal does not make a candidate eligible for admission. Students must also fill in their choice of programme on GCAS and separately pay the entrance test fee on the university's portal for the concerned programme.

University authorities noted that many students were found completing only one part of the process, leading to confusion over eligibility. This issue surfaced during admissions for the BBA programme at the Faculty of Commerce, where many students took the entrance test without completing the GCAS procedure.

Eligibility Criteria

The varsity clarified that candidates who register on GCAS but do not select the programme choice or fail to pay the entrance test fee on the university portal will be treated as "Not Eligible" for admission. Even students who have paid the fee for the entrance test and taken it will be declared ineligible if they have not completed registration and programme selection on the GCAS portal.

Additionally, students who register on GCAS and fill programme choices only after the entrance test has been conducted will also be considered "Not Eligible," and such applications will not be accepted.

Extended Deadline

To avoid hardship to students, the university has decided to keep the GCAS portal open until the prescribed last date so that applicants can complete the mandatory registration and admission formalities. The circular has been issued by the university registrar and circulated to all faculty deans, college principals, and the GCAS cell.

Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Professor Pragnesh Shah, said that students who appeared in the BBA entrance examination but whose registration is not reflected on the GCAS portal can complete the process until May 28 as the portal remains open. However, students who neither appeared for the entrance examination nor registered on the MSU portal will not be considered eligible for BBA admissions even if they have registered on GCAS.
