The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) regarding a plea seeking the declaration of the Class 12 improvement examination results. The bench, while hearing the matter, emphasized that the case concerns the career of a child and directed the board to respond.
Petition Filed by Student
The plea was filed by Pransu Jigarkumar Patel, a student who appeared for the Class 12 improvement exams in Gulf countries. The examinations were canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, and despite an assessment scheme being framed for such students, the CBSE has not declared the results. The petitioner argued that this delay is causing significant harm to his academic and professional future.
Supreme Court's Observations
During the hearing, the Supreme Court remarked, "This is about the career of a child. The board must ensure timely declaration of results to avoid further distress." The court issued a notice to the CBSE, seeking a response within two weeks. The matter is scheduled for further hearing after the reply is filed.
Background of the Case
The CBSE had earlier formulated a special assessment scheme for students whose examinations in several Gulf countries were canceled. However, the results under this scheme have not been released, leaving students in limbo. The petitioner's counsel argued that the delay violates the fundamental right to education and career progression.
The Supreme Court's intervention is seen as a crucial step to address the grievances of affected students. The board has been asked to explain the reasons for the delay and outline a timeline for the declaration of results.
