Bengaluru PU Exam-2: Freshers Pass Rate 46%, Overall 92.2%

The Karnataka Department of Pre-University Education announced the results of the second pre-university (PU) examination on Thursday, revealing that freshers achieved a pass percentage of 46%. With these results, the consolidated pass percentage for the academic year 2026 has reached 92.2%, marking an improvement of 7 percentage points compared to the previous year.

Exam-2 Performance Overview

A total of 80,535 students appeared for the second exam, out of which 36,764 passed. The pass percentage varied across streams: science recorded 51%, commerce 43%, and arts 44%. The examination was conducted from April 30 to May 13 at 253 centers across the state. Notably, there will be no third exam this year.

Gender and Grade Distribution

Girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 47%, compared to 45% for boys. In terms of grades, 62 students secured distinction, 8,086 achieved first class, and 16,940 obtained second class. The highest number of centums (perfect scores) was recorded in mathematics with 315, followed by chemistry (75), physics (61), computer science (48), biology (36), and Kannada (60). In contrast, the first exam had seen 10,982 centums in mathematics.

Consolidated Results for 2026

When combining results from both exams, science students achieved a pass percentage of 96%, commerce 93%, and arts 83%. Repeat students and private candidates recorded pass percentages of 24% and 30% respectively in this exam, with consolidated pass percentages of 39% and 54% for the academic year.

Government Initiatives Credited

School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa attributed the improved results to several planned measures by the department. These include the appointment of guest lecturers at the start of the academic year, instructions to complete the syllabus by December, and the availability of question banks and model question papers. He stated, 'These results are clear proof of our government’s vision that no child should be left behind.'
