Goa Board Introduces Compensation Scheme for Class X, 342 Pass
Goa Board Compensation Scheme Helps 342 Pass Class X

The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has introduced a compensation scheme for the first time for the batch that cleared Class X on Sunday. The new scheme aided 342 students in passing their Class X public examination.

Key Highlights of the Compensation Scheme

While 275 students passed the Class X examination by utilizing the conditions of the compensation scheme, another 53 cleared their Class X by benefiting from a combination of the compensation scheme and sport merit marks concession.

Under the National Education Policy (NEP), students have to study six regular subjects and four skill-based subjects. The 2025-26 batch was the first to clear Class X under this framework.

How the Compensation Scheme Works

Under the new compensation scheme, if a student fails in any two of the regular subjects, they are still given the opportunity to clear Class X if they secure at least 60% in two of the skill-based subjects and at least 51% in the other two skill-based subjects. However, to pass Class X availing of this compensation scheme, the student must fulfill the condition of securing at least 10% marks in the regular subjects in which they have failed. The student must obtain a minimum of 10% in the theory component and the board practical component, whenever applicable, such as in science.

Changes in Grace Marks and Sports Merit

After the introduction of this compensation scheme, the Goa Board has done away with the provision of grace marks and condonation marks. Sports merit marks, however, continue to be applicable.

ATKT Scheme for Non-Clearing Students

For students who do not clear Class X after applying the compensation scheme, the 'allowed to keep term' (ATKT) scheme continues. Candidates placed under ATKT will be allowed to answer the supplementary examination to improve their performance. This year, 417 students were placed under ATKT.

"346 candidates from the regular fresh batch have been placed in the ATKT category and they are allowed to take admission in Class XI. However, these students have to pass the SSC examination, only after which their Class XI results will be declared. Facility of ATKT in Class XI is for those candidates who are placed in 'needs improvement' category in one or two subjects," said Goa Board chairperson Bhagirath Shetye.
