In a significant move to ensure fairness for lakhs of aspirants, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced a final, one-time correction window for Junior Engineer (JE) Examination 2025 candidates who missed selecting their preferred exam city. This initiative comes as the Commission rolls out its new, digital self-slotting system for a massive recruitment drive.
A Last Chance for City Selection
The Commission has issued a fresh notice stating that candidates who did not opt for an exam city during the initial self-slotting window now have a final opportunity. They can submit their preferred exam city through the feedback module on their candidate login portal. The deadline for this crucial step is 11 am on November 28, 2025.
It is vital to note that the SSC has clarified that exam city allocation during this extended window will be done on a best-effort basis. The Commission has issued a strict warning: candidates who fail to utilize this last chance will not be allotted an examination center for JE Paper 1, and their admit cards will not be issued.
Key Dates and the New Self-Slotting Process
This final window is an exception to the standard procedure. The self-slotting windows were previously held from November 10 to 13, 2025, for JE and are scheduled from November 17 to 21, 2025, for Sub-Inspector (SI) posts. Once candidates locked their choices during these periods, the selections were final and could not be edited.
For those who had successfully completed the self-slotting process for JE between November 10 and 13, their city-live status will be activated on November 25, 2025. The SSC's shift to this self-slotting model is a key part of its longer-term strategy to create a more digital and candidate-friendly examination system, especially critical in a high-volume recruitment year.
A High-Stakes Recruitment Drive
The context for this move is a substantial recruitment cycle. The SSC is conducting a joint recruitment drive for 5,308 vacancies each for Junior Engineer (JE) and Sub-Inspector (SI) posts. With lakhs of candidates in the selection pool, the Commission's efforts to streamline the process are more important than ever.
Parallel to these slotting updates, the SSC also closed the application window for JE Recruitment 2025 on July 21, 2025. This recruitment drive covers 1,340 posts across Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering disciplines. These Group B (Non-Gazetted) posts fall under Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, offering a handsome salary range of Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 per month.
The examination schedule is as follows: Paper 1 is scheduled for October 27-31, 2025, while Paper 2 is tentatively set for January-February 2026. The selection process involves two Computer-Based Tests followed by document verification. Paper 1 carries 200 marks with a negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer, and Paper 2 carries 300 marks with a penalty of one mark for each incorrect response.
In a related decision highlighting its candidate-centric approach, the SSC has also rescheduled exam dates for approximately 1,100 candidates who sought relief due to clashing dates with other competitive exams or for other valid reasons.
