Gujarat's Diploma to Degree Entrance Test Registration Concludes with Strong Turnout
The registration process for admission from diploma to degree courses in engineering and pharmacy streams in Gujarat has recently concluded, marking a significant step in the state's higher education framework. This year, the process saw a robust participation with 22,138 students registering for the admission, out of which 22,046 candidates successfully paid the fees, indicating a high level of commitment among applicants.
Key Details of the Admission Process
The admission process is being conducted for a total of 36,212 seats across various institutions in Gujarat. The Diploma to Degree Common Entrance Test (DDCET) is scheduled to be held offline on April 26. This exam represents a pivotal change in the admission system. Previously, students who completed diploma engineering were granted direct admission to the second semester of degree engineering based purely on merit. However, the system has now been revised, making it mandatory for all students to take the DDCET to secure admission, ensuring a standardized and competitive selection process.
Registration and Demographic Breakdown
The admission committee invited online registrations from February 9 to March 30. According to official data, the registered candidates include:
- 8,046 from the general category
- 3,110 from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)
- 1,653 from the Scheduled Castes (SC)
- 2,011 from the Scheduled Tribes (ST)
- 7,126 from the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC)
In terms of gender distribution, among the applicants, 5,286 are female and 16,760 are male, highlighting a notable gender disparity in the registration numbers.
Seat Distribution and Eligibility Criteria
In terms of seat distribution, 2,068 seats are available in 16 government and three grant-in-aid colleges, while 34,144 seats are offered by 120 self-financed institutions. This allocation underscores the significant role of private institutions in accommodating the bulk of the student intake.
Eligible candidates include those who have completed diplomas from recognized boards in the state. Additionally, students from across India are eligible for 5% of the seats in government institutions, promoting national integration. Furthermore, candidates with BSc or vocational degrees are also eligible to apply, broadening the scope of applicants beyond traditional diploma holders.
Examination Timeline and Result Declaration
The provisional answer key for the DDCET will be released on April 27, with objections accepted from April 28 to May 2. This allows candidates to review and challenge any discrepancies, ensuring transparency in the evaluation process. The final answer key and results are expected in early and mid-May, respectively, providing a clear timeline for students to plan their academic futures.
This revised admission system aims to enhance fairness and meritocracy in Gujarat's engineering and pharmacy education sectors, setting a precedent for other states to follow.
