AICTE Unveils Third Edition of Flagship VAANI Scheme to Boost Indian Languages in Technical Education

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has officially launched the third edition of its pioneering AICTE-VAANI initiative, which stands for Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages. This significant move reinforces the council's steadfast dedication to integrating and promoting Indian languages within the realm of technical education across the nation.

Official Inauguration and Key Announcements

The scheme was formally inaugurated by AICTE Chairman Prof. Yogesh Singh, who also presided over the release of the comprehensive scheme document and a specialized online portal designed for streamlined application submissions. This launch marks a pivotal step in AICTE's ongoing efforts to democratize technical knowledge and make it more accessible to students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Vision and Objectives of the VAANI Initiative

During the launch event, Prof. Yogesh Singh articulated the core mission of the AICTE-VAANI scheme, emphasizing its goal to cultivate a robust and inclusive knowledge ecosystem rooted in regional languages. He highlighted that this initiative will empower students and researchers to engage with cutting-edge technological advancements in their native tongues, thereby bridging the language gap that often hinders academic and professional progress.

Prof. Singh underscored several critical aspects of the scheme:

  • Encouraging the publication of research papers in Indian languages to enhance academic contributions and visibility.
  • Strengthening collaborative ties between academic institutions and industry stakeholders to foster innovation and practical applications.
  • Addressing the challenges faced by students who, after completing their schooling in their mother tongue, struggle with English as the medium of instruction in higher education.
  • Asserting that students can achieve significantly better academic outcomes when complex technical concepts are taught in languages they are most comfortable with.

Financial Support and Event Structure

Under the AICTE-VAANI scheme, substantial financial assistance of Rs. 4 crore will be allocated annually to support a wide array of academic activities. This funding will facilitate 200 conferences, seminars, and workshops, with each selected institution receiving a grant of Rs. 2 lakh. These events are planned to span two to three days each and will be conducted exclusively in 22 designated regional languages.

The languages covered include:

  1. Hindi
  2. Tamil
  3. Telugu
  4. Bengali
  5. Marathi
  6. Gujarati
  7. Kannada
  8. Malayalam
  9. Punjabi

Impact and Future Prospects

AICTE Member Secretary Prof. Shyama Rath elaborated on the transformative potential of the VAANI scheme, noting its vital role in making technical education more accessible and meaningful for students nationwide. She emphasized that ensuring the availability of study materials and fostering a supportive academic environment in students' mother languages will not only benefit individual learners but also contribute significantly to the nation's overall progress and innovation capacity.
