Shimla: Harminder Singh Baweja has been assigned the additional charge of vice-chancellor of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, in Solan district, following the completion of the extended one-year tenure of incumbent vice-chancellor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel on May 8. The appointment order was issued by governor-cum-chancellor Kavinder Gupta under the provisions of the Himachal Pradesh Universities of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry Act, 1986.
Baweja's Role and Responsibilities
Baweja, who is serving as principal scientist in the department of floriculture and landscape architecture at UHF Nauni, will hold the charge in addition to his existing duties. He will continue in the role until further orders or till the appointment of a regular vice-chancellor, whichever is earlier. This additional responsibility comes at a crucial time for the university, which focuses on horticulture and forestry education and research in the region.
Background of the Appointment
Rajeshwar Singh Chandel had been serving as vice-chancellor and his extended tenure ended on May 8, prompting the need for an interim arrangement. The governor, as chancellor of the university, exercised the powers vested in him under the relevant act to ensure continuity in administration. Baweja's experience as a principal scientist in floriculture and landscape architecture is expected to provide stable leadership during this transitional period.
The university, located in the picturesque Nauni area of Solan district, is a premier institution in the field of horticulture and forestry in Himachal Pradesh. The appointment of Baweja ensures that academic and administrative functions continue smoothly until a regular vice-chancellor is appointed through the standard selection process.
