From Norway's Tech Corridors to IIM Bangalore's Wall of Fame: The Dhvit Mehta Story

In a remarkable tale of academic triumph and career transformation, 27-year-old Dhvit Mehta from Anand has etched his name into the prestigious legacy of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. His journey—spanning coding labs in India, corporate success in Europe, and ultimately the pinnacle of management education—culminated on March 27, 2026, when he received the gold medal for academic excellence at the institute's 51st convocation.

A Foundation Built in Anand and Allahabad

Dhvit Mehta's academic journey began at Anandalaya School in Anand, where he completed his schooling in 2016. Demonstrating early aptitude for technology, he pursued a dual degree in computer science (BTech and MTech) at IIIT Allahabad, choosing the institute over closer options in Gujarat to gain stronger technical exposure. His graduation in 2021 marked the beginning of a professional path that would soon take him across continents.

Professional Ascension in the Global Tech Arena

Entering the workforce during the pandemic, Mehta started with a US-based cloud company before securing a position at Microsoft. In July 2022, he relocated to Norway as a software engineer, where over nearly two years he earned a promotion and established himself in a stable global tech career. However, even as he thrived in coding, a growing interest in finance began to reshape his ambitions.

The CFA Catalyst and Management Education Pursuit

To explore his financial interests, Mehta undertook the demanding Chartered Financial Analyst programme alongside his job, clearing Levels I and II without coaching—a feat that would prove crucial to his future transition. His management education journey had earlier roots: in 2021, with minimal preparation, he scored 98.5 percentile in CAT but chose not to join IIM Indore. When he reappeared in 2023, he secured calls from top institutes including IIM Bangalore, eventually making it to the PGP programme after initial waitlisting.

Academic Excellence at IIM Bangalore

At IIM Bangalore, Mehta distinguished himself in a highly competitive batch comprising students from IITs and other premier institutions. His consistent academic performance, combined with his CFA background, provided a distinct edge in finance courses. This excellence earned him the gold medal for academic performance, making him only the second Gujarati to achieve this honor at IIM Bangalore, following Aditya Shah (PGP 2022–24).

A Complete Career Transformation

"For me, this is not just my achievement—it reflects the support of my family, friends and faculty at IIM Bangalore," Mehta stated. Now set to begin his career in investment banking with a Mumbai-based firm, his journey represents a complete transition from coding to capital markets. He credits his CFA qualification for enabling this shift, helping him break into finance despite his engineering background.

As his name joins the institute's Wall of Fame, Dhvit Mehta's story stands as testament to the power of determined pursuit across disciplines—from the technical foundations of IIIT Allahabad, through the corporate experience of Microsoft Norway, to the academic pinnacle of IIM Bangalore, and now toward the financial frontiers of investment banking.
