Punjab Governor Banwarilal Kataria on Wednesday called for a harmonious balance between innovation and traditional values in the education system. Speaking at a function at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University in Fatehgarh Sahib, he emphasized that while technological advancements are crucial for progress, they must be accompanied by moral and ethical grounding.

Addressing students and faculty, Kataria said that education should not only focus on skill development but also on character building. He urged institutions to integrate value-based education with modern teaching methods to prepare students for global challenges.
Need for Value-Based Education
The governor highlighted that rapid technological changes often lead to a disconnect from cultural roots. He stressed the importance of instilling values such as honesty, compassion, and respect for diversity in young minds. "Innovation without ethics can be dangerous. We need to ensure that our education system produces not just skilled professionals but responsible citizens," he said.
Role of Teachers and Parents
Kataria also called upon teachers and parents to play an active role in shaping the character of students. He suggested that educational institutions should organize workshops and seminars on ethical practices and cultural heritage. "Teachers are the architects of society. They must lead by example and inspire students to uphold moral values," he added.
University's Initiatives
The university vice-chancellor briefed the governor about various initiatives taken to promote value-based education, including community service programs and interfaith dialogues. The event was attended by faculty members, students, and local dignitaries.
Kataria concluded by reiterating that the ultimate goal of education is to create a balanced individual who can contribute positively to society. He appreciated the university's efforts in blending tradition with modernity and encouraged other institutions to follow suit.
