Governor Gehlot Hails Akkamahadevi University as a Hub for Women's Advancement
In a significant address at the 17th convocation of Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women's University (KSAWU) in Vijayapura, Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot proclaimed the institution as a shining centre dedicated to women's education, empowerment, self-reliance, confidence, and spiritual awareness. He underscored that the university, named after the revered saint-poet Akkamahadevi, embodies her ideals by fostering true knowledge that makes individuals independent, fearless, and self-sufficient.
Education as a Path to Societal Service and Personal Growth
Gehlot elaborated that education transcends mere knowledge acquisition, serving as a vital route to gaining self-confidence and contributing to society. He stated, "A degree in education symbolises discipline, hard work, and determination too." Emphasizing the current era's blend of opportunities and challenges, he called for integrating knowledge with moral values, social responsibility, and sensitivity to navigate modern complexities effectively.
Leveraging National Initiatives for Global Impact
The Governor highlighted India's rapid global ascent through initiatives like Digital India, Startup India, Make in India, and Vocal for Local, noting that this period is marked by science, technology, and innovation. He urged graduates to utilize their education not only for personal advancement but also for societal welfare, asserting, "An educated woman empowers not only her own life but also the entire society."
Vice-Chancellors Stress Skills and Women's Role in Nation-Building
Prof Ujjwala Chakradev, Vice-Chancellor of SNDT Women's University in Mumbai, addressed the convocation, cautioning that degrees alone do not secure students' futures. She emphasized that skills, employability, lifelong learning, and adaptability are crucial determinants. As India progresses toward the vision of Developed India 2047, she opined that educated and empowered women play a pivotal role in nation-building, driving economic self-reliance and pioneering leadership.
Prof Chakradev further noted that institutions like SNDT Women's University and KSAWU share a common mission: empowering women through education to shape them as leaders and agents of change. This collaboration underscores a unified commitment to fostering female advancement across regions.
Honorary Doctorates and Dignitaries Present
The event was graced by notable figures, including Prof Vijaya Korishetti, Vice-Chancellor of KSAWU, and recipients of honorary doctorates: Parvateva S Hongal, Sangeeta N Kattimani, and Ashadevi Jagadeesh Gudagunti. Other attendees included registrars Shankargowda Somanal and Prof BL Lakkannavar, finance officer Ramanna Athani, along with Syndicate and Academic Council members, and deans from various faculties, highlighting the university's broad academic and administrative support.
This convocation reinforced KSAWU's dedication to advancing women's education, aligning with broader national goals for empowerment and development.
