Twin Brothers from Gujarat Achieve Rare Medical Milestone in Postgraduate Admissions
In a remarkable and rare coincidence during Gujarat's medical admissions this year, twin brothers Him and Hard Dalsaniya from Limbdi have both secured postgraduate medical seats simultaneously. Each brother has been allotted a highly sought-after end branch following their performance in the NEET PG examination, marking a significant achievement in their academic careers.
Academic Journey and Early Pact to Become Doctors
The brothers, sons of teacher parents Narottam and Urmila Dalsaniya, shared a close educational bond from an early age. They studied together from Class 1 to 12 in Morbi, Gujarat. Him Dalsaniya recounted their journey, stating, "We studied side by side from Class 1 and, in Class 11, chose B group with a pact to become doctors together." This early commitment laid the foundation for their synchronized path into the medical field.
Diverging Paths and Reunion at Postgraduate Level
After completing their schooling, the brothers' academic paths diverged temporarily but converged again at the postgraduate stage. Him completed his MBBS at GMERS in Gandhinagar, while Hard graduated from MP Shah Medical College in Jamnagar. In the NEET PG examination, Him scored 528 with an All India Rank of 16,643, and Hard scored 526 with an All India Rank of 17,045 and a Gujarat rank of 993. Interestingly, in NEET UG, Hard had scored 496 and Him 465, but this difference reversed in the postgraduate exam, highlighting their competitive spirit.
Him explained their dynamic, saying, "We pushed each other—whoever was ahead had to pull the other up." This mutual support was crucial in their success.
Strategic Choices in Branch Selection
Initially, both brothers were allotted MD Medicine at Parul Medical College, but they chose not to accept these seats. In subsequent rounds, Him secured a seat in Dermatology at LN Medical College in Bhopal, with a fee of Rs 23.15 lakh, while Hard opted for Radiology at ND Desai Medical College in Nadiad, with a fee of Rs 31 lakh. Hard shared his decision, telling Him, "I had Dermatology in Bhopal as an option, but Radiology was my first love." Him added, "We waited because we wanted our first choices, not just any seat."
The brothers could have taken other branches at BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad but remained steadfast in their preferred disciplines. Him emphasized, "Dermatology and Radiology are end branches—you finish here, you don't branch out later."
Reasoning Behind Choosing End Branches
Explaining their strategic choice, Him detailed, "We chose these two non-emergency branches because we had an interest in them from the beginning. In fields like Medicine, you have to keep studying for another three years after your degree to become a specialist, such as a heart specialist. But Dermatology and Radiology are 'ultimate' or 'end branches'—once you complete your PG, you don't necessarily have to specialize further. At most, you might do a fellowship, but nothing beyond that. This allows your life to settle more easily, which is why we chose these branches over Medicine."
This decision reflects their forward-thinking approach to career planning, aiming for stability and fulfillment in their medical professions.
