IIT-Gandhinagar Scientist Awarded Prestigious European Fellowship for Advanced Nanotechnology Research
Ahmedabad: In a significant achievement for Indian scientific research, Amit Kumar Yadav, an ANRF-National Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Biological Sciences and Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar, has been honored with the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2025. This highly competitive award comes under the Horizon Europe programme of the European Commission, recognizing exceptional early-career researchers worldwide.
Groundbreaking Research at the Nanotechnology Frontier
Yadav is currently conducting advanced research under the guidance of Professor Dhiraj Bhatia at IIT Gandhinagar, where he works at the cutting-edge intersection of nanotechnology, biosensing, and molecular diagnostics. His research represents a significant contribution to the development of next-generation medical technologies that could revolutionize disease detection and treatment.
The selected project, named TetraWalk-PEC, aims to push the boundaries of molecular diagnostic technologies through innovative approaches involving programmable DNA nanostructures and photoelectrochemical sensing platforms. This research has the potential to create more sensitive, accurate, and accessible diagnostic tools for various medical conditions.
From Jharkhand to International Recognition
In an exclusive conversation, Yadav revealed his humble beginnings as a native of Tatijharia in Jharkhand. "My journey into science began with a deep curiosity about the world around me," he explained. "My father, who works as a teacher, has been a constant source of motivation and support throughout my academic career."
Before joining IIT Gandhinagar, Yadav gained valuable research experience as a junior research fellow at the Cancer Genetics Laboratory at the University of Delhi. During this period, he focused on understanding the complex molecular mechanisms involved in cancer drug resistance, laying the foundation for his current work in advanced diagnostics.
The Significance of the MSCA Fellowship
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship represents one of the most prestigious awards available to early-career researchers in Europe and globally. Named after the pioneering physicist and chemist who won two Nobel Prizes, the fellowship supports researchers in expanding their skills through international mobility and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Recipients of this fellowship gain access to world-class research facilities, international networks, and substantial funding to pursue innovative projects that address global challenges. Yadav's selection highlights the growing recognition of Indian scientific talent on the international stage and the quality of research emerging from institutions like IIT Gandhinagar.
This achievement not only brings personal recognition to Yadav but also reflects positively on India's scientific research ecosystem, demonstrating that homegrown talent can compete and excel at the highest international levels.
