The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has called for applications for its PhD Walk-in Admissions Programme 2026. Eligible candidates can apply for the doctoral programme and engage in research across various domains, including aerodynamics, propulsion, flight dynamics and control, structures and aeroelasticity, computational mechanics, and aero-thermodynamics.
Important Dates and Scholarship
According to the institute, the last date to register for the admission process is June 16, 2026. Online interviews will be conducted on June 18, 2026. Selected PhD scholars will be eligible for an institute scholarship of up to Rs 42,000 per month.
Eligibility Criteria
The walk-in admission process is open to students from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs), including IITs, IISc, NITs, IIITs, and IISERs. Additionally, students from non-CFTI institutions ranked among the top 100 in the NIRF Engineering Rankings 2025 can also apply.
For candidates from CFTIs, a GATE score is not required for admission. Meanwhile, BTech students from eligible non-CFTI institutions must have a CPI/CGPA above 7.5. In their case, a GATE score will be required only after an admission offer is made and at the time of registration.
How to Apply
The department stated that admissions will be based on online or on-campus interviews. Candidates selected through the process will have the opportunity to work on advanced research projects in aerospace engineering and related fields.
