The degree was presented by the Governor and Chancellor of the University, Abdul Nazeer, marking a significant milestone in her professional and scholarly journey.
Groundbreaking Research on Telugu Media
Dr. Rehana Begum completed her doctoral research on the topic "Coverage of International News in Telugu Newspapers" under the expert supervision of Prof BN Neelima. Her comprehensive study involved an analysis of over one thousand samples from Telugu newspapers, examining key dimensions related to how international news is represented in regional print media.
This research provides an in-depth understanding of the extent to which Telugu newspapers incorporate a global perspective in their coverage, shedding light on the media's role in shaping public awareness of world events.
Academic Rigor and Professional Commitment
While diligently discharging her responsibilities as State Information Commissioner, Dr. Begum successfully managed to complete this extensive research work. In July of last year, she delivered her viva voce presentation before a committee comprising faculty members and research scholars at the university.
The committee, satisfied with both her thesis and presentation, unanimously recommended the award of the Ph.D. degree, recognizing the quality and significance of her scholarly contributions.
Recognition and Future Implications
Research supervisor Prof Neelima emphasized that this study would significantly contribute to evaluating the international outlook of Telugu print media, potentially influencing future journalistic practices and media policies in the region.
At the convocation ceremony held on Saturday, several dignitaries and well-wishers congratulated Dr. Rehana Begum on her academic achievement, highlighting how her dual roles in public service and academia serve as an inspiration.
This accomplishment underscores the importance of continuous learning and research in enhancing professional expertise, particularly in fields like journalism and information dissemination.
