Jamia Millia Islamia Embarks on Pioneering Youth Exchange to Northeast India
In a landmark initiative, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has made its inaugural participation in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER)'s Ashtalakshmi Youth Exchange Programme. This significant step involves dispatching a 20-member student delegation on an extensive tour across Northeast India, scheduled from March 15 to 28, 2026. The programme is fully funded, covering all essential expenses such as air travel, accommodation, and logistical support, ensuring a seamless experience for the participants.
Academic and Cultural Immersion in Guwahati
The JMI delegation is currently being hosted at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati), where students are actively engaging in a variety of enriching activities. These include academic interactions with peers and faculty, institutional visits to key educational and research centers, and vibrant cultural exchanges. The primary objective of this exchange is to promote national integration and deepen cultural understanding by bridging youth from diverse regions of India. Through hands-on field visits and insightful discussions, participants are gaining firsthand exposure to the unique socioeconomic and cultural landscape of the northeastern states, alongside ongoing developmental projects in the area.
Coordinated Efforts for Youth Engagement
The programme is being meticulously coordinated by Sudhanshu Trivedi, an Assistant Professor at the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution. Professor Trivedi has been appointed as the nodal officer by both the Ministry of DoNER and the JMI Vice-Chancellor, underscoring the collaborative nature of this initiative. University officials have emphasized that such programmes are instrumental in broadening students' intellectual and cultural horizons. They not only strengthen inter-regional ties but also encourage active youth participation in nation-building efforts.
Reflecting JMI's Commitment to National Dialogue
Jamia Millia Islamia's involvement in the Ashtalakshmi Youth Exchange Programme highlights its unwavering focus on fostering academic exchange, cultural dialogue, and youth engagement at a national level. By participating in this programme, JMI reinforces its dedication to creating platforms that empower students to contribute to a more unified and progressive India. This initiative serves as a testament to the university's role in shaping future leaders who are well-versed in the country's diverse heritage and developmental challenges.
