Jharkhand to Establish 13 Professional Colleges and Skill University to Boost Job-Oriented Education
Jharkhand Sets Up 13 Professional Colleges and Skill University

Jharkhand Unveils Major Expansion in Professional Education with 13 New Colleges and Skill University

In a significant move to enhance access to job-oriented higher education, the Higher Education and Technical Department of Jharkhand has announced plans to establish 13 professional colleges across seven districts. This initiative aims to address the growing demand for skill-based courses among the state's youth, particularly in underserved rural areas.

Strategic Locations for New Colleges to Bridge Educational Gaps

The proposed professional colleges will be set up in Ranchi, Khunti, Latehar, Deoghar, Chatra, Dhanbad, and Palamu districts. According to Principal Secretary Rahul Purwar, this strategic placement is designed to cater to regions where access to professional education has been limited. "There are many areas like rural parts of Ranchi where scores of youths want professional education but they, particularly the women, do not have access to these courses in the city," Purwar stated. He highlighted that colleges will be established in rural locations such as Tamar, Lapung, and Burmu in Ranchi district, as well as in underserved districts like Latehar.

Focus on Employment-Oriented and Regionally Relevant Courses

These institutions will offer employment-oriented and regionally relevant professional courses that are aligned with local economic potential and emerging sectoral demands. Purwar emphasized that the curriculum will be tailored to strengthen employability and entrepreneurship among youths. Since the infrastructure for these colleges is expected to take around two years to complete, courses will initially commence in vacant government buildings to ensure no delay in educational opportunities.

Establishment of Jharkhand Skill University on Ranchi University Campus

In addition to the new colleges, the department plans to establish a Jharkhand Skill University (JSU) on the existing campus of Ranchi University (RU). This move follows the planned relocation of RU to a new campus at Chedi mauza. The JSU will focus on competency-based, industry-aligned, and skill-integrated higher education, further enhancing the state's efforts to boost youth employability.

Key Features of the Educational Expansion Plan

  • 13 professional colleges to be set up in seven districts: Ranchi, Khunti, Latehar, Deoghar, Chatra, Dhanbad, and Palamu.
  • Courses designed to be job-oriented and relevant to local economic needs.
  • Initial classes to start in government buildings while infrastructure is under construction.
  • Jharkhand Skill University to be established on the current Ranchi University campus, focusing on skill-based education.
  • Emphasis on increasing access for women and rural populations to professional courses.

This comprehensive initiative underscores Jharkhand's commitment to transforming its higher education landscape by making professional and skill-based education more accessible and aligned with market demands. The projects are poised to play a crucial role in empowering the state's youth with the skills needed for future employment and entrepreneurial ventures.
