Maharashtra MBA CET Hits Record 1.8 Lakh Registrations

Maharashtra MBA/MMS CET Kicks Off with Unprecedented 1.8 Lakh Registrations

The state common entrance test (CET) cell's MBA/MMS entrance examination for the 2026-27 academic session commenced on Monday across Maharashtra, marking a historic milestone with record-breaking registrations. The computer-based test, scheduled from April 6 to 8, is being conducted at 173 centers spanning all 36 districts of the state.

Record-Breaking Participation and Logistical Challenges

State CET officials reported that the sheer scale of participation has introduced complexities in ensuring a smooth and fair examination process. With elaborate arrangements in place, the cell is navigating the challenges posed by the massive turnout. The total number of registrations has surged to 1.8 lakh for this academic year, a significant increase from 1.3 lakh in the 2023-24 session, underscoring a growing demand for management education in the region.

Introduction of Two-Attempt Format

In a key reform aligning with national-level entrance exams, candidates have been granted two attempts this year. The first attempt began on Monday, while the second is slated for May 9. Of the total registrants, over 1.3 lakh candidates are participating in the initial attempt—the first time a single session has surpassed the one-lakh mark—with 48,588 opting for the second attempt.

Candidates are required to appear for at least one attempt, with the second remaining optional. According to a CET official, "The higher percentile score will be considered for admissions if both attempts are taken." This new format aims to provide flexibility and reduce pressure on aspirants.

Inclusivity and Demographic Insights

The applicant pool reflects a commitment to inclusivity, with diverse participation noted:

  • Eight transgender candidates registered.
  • 482 orphan aspirants are part of the cohort.
  • 487 differently abled candidates have enrolled.

This diversity highlights the exam's accessibility and the broadening appeal of management programs.

Preparedness Under Scrutiny

With the rising numbers and the introduction of the two-attempt format, the CET cell's preparedness is under close observation. Officials are tasked with conducting one of the largest entrance exams in its history, ensuring integrity and efficiency across all centers. The success of this session could set a precedent for future examinations, emphasizing the need for robust logistical frameworks in high-stakes testing environments.
