Mandya University VC Calls for Youth to Embrace Humanitarian Values and Critical Thinking

In a compelling address at Mandya University, Vice-Chancellor K Shivachittappa urged the youth to cultivate humanitarian and ethical values alongside positive thinking to make meaningful contributions to society and politics. The remarks were delivered during the inauguration of the district-level 'Viksit Bharat Youth Talent Competition' and 'Viksit Bharat Youth Connectivity Programme: Youth Parliament 2026' at the university's Syndicate Hall on Thursday.

Emphasis on Broader Social and Political Understanding

Shivachittappa stressed that young people should develop a broader understanding of social and political issues through critical thinking. He highlighted that initiatives like the youth parliament are crucial in fostering political awareness and leadership qualities among the younger generation. By engaging in such programs, youth can better navigate complex societal challenges and contribute effectively to nation-building.

Inspiration from Swami Vivekananda's Ideals

Drawing inspiration from the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, the vice-chancellor encouraged students to actively participate in nation-building efforts. He noted that embracing these values not only enriches personal growth but also strengthens the fabric of society, aligning with the goals of the Viksit Bharat initiatives aimed at youth empowerment and connectivity.

Support from District Administration and Departments

The event was organized collaboratively by the district administration, zilla panchayat, Mandya University, My Bharat Mandya, the National Service Scheme (NSS), and the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES). Om Prakash, assistant director of DYES, highlighted several schemes offered by the department to empower young people. He urged students to seize these opportunities and emphasized that awareness of fundamental rights and duties enshrined in the Constitution is essential for leading a dignified life in society.

Encouragement for Self-Reliance and Constitutional Awareness

Registrar of Mandya University Krishna Kumar advised the youth to strive for self-reliance, whether through government employment or entrepreneurship. He called on students to deepen their understanding of constitutional values and continuously enhance their knowledge, underscoring the importance of lifelong learning in personal and professional development.
