Odisha Students Earn Global Acclaim at Tokyo Finance Forum

In a significant development, Suryabanshi Suraj, a minister from Odisha, on Saturday extended heartfelt commendations to a group of seven talented students from the state for their remarkable representation at the prestigious Tokyo Global Finance Forum. The minister described their accomplishment as 'a moment of pride' for Odisha, highlighting the growing prowess of the youth in the region.

Innovative Fintech Project Takes Center Stage

During their interaction with the minister, the students were congratulated for presenting an innovative fintech project on a global platform. The team showcased TranchiFy, a trust-based working capital platform specifically designed to cater to the needs of next-generation small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This project aims to revolutionize financial solutions for emerging businesses by leveraging cutting-edge technology.

The selection of these students was facilitated through the fintech and insurtech certificate programme, a collaborative initiative between the state government, the National University of Singapore’s Asian Institute of Digital Finance, and the Global Finance and Technology Network. This programme is instrumental in nurturing talent and providing exposure to international standards in the financial technology sector.

Bridging Academic Learning with Industry Exposure

Suraj emphasized that the success of these students underscores the creativity, innovation, and immense potential harbored by young minds in Odisha. "Their achievement not only showcases their capabilities but also makes Odisha proud on the global stage," he stated. The minister further noted that such initiatives are crucial in bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world industry exposure, thereby enabling students to compete effectively at international forums.

This accomplishment reflects a broader trend of youth empowerment in the state, with educational programmes increasingly focusing on practical skills and global competitiveness. The minister's praise underscores the government's commitment to fostering an environment where innovation and entrepreneurship can thrive among students.

IIT Bhubaneswar Collaborates to Advance Indian Knowledge Systems

In a separate but equally noteworthy development, the Indian Institute of Technology-Bhubaneswar has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bhaktivedanta Research Centre (BRC) in Kolkata. This partnership is aimed at promoting interdisciplinary research and advancing Indian Knowledge Systems, blending traditional wisdom with modern academic rigor.

Strengthening Research and Academic Engagement

Last week, Dinakar Pasla, the dean of sponsored research and industrial consultancy at IIT Bhubaneswar, signed the MoU with Sumanta Rudra, dean academics and trustee at BRC. The signing ceremony was conducted in the presence of faculty members and officials from both institutions, marking a significant step towards collaborative academic endeavors.

The collaboration seeks to foster academic engagement in diverse areas such as philosophy, digital humanities, and interdisciplinary studies. It is designed to strengthen research that is deeply rooted in India's traditional knowledge systems, reflecting a shared commitment to education, research, and knowledge dissemination by leveraging the unique strengths of both institutions.

Key Initiatives Under the MoU

As part of this agreement, IIT Bhubaneswar and BRC will jointly organize a series of academic activities, including:

  • Conferences and workshops to facilitate knowledge exchange
  • Seminars and lecture series featuring experts from various fields
  • Public outreach programmes to engage the broader community

Additionally, the MoU provides for collaborative research projects, academic publications, and the development of interdisciplinary scholarship that integrates humanities, social sciences, and technology. A major focus area will be digital humanities and manuscript studies, encompassing digitization efforts, textual analysis, and the creation of digital research tools and repositories to preserve and study historical texts.
