Government schools in Prayagraj are embarking on a major digital upgrade. This year, authorities will equip 100 more primary, upper primary, and composite schools with smart classrooms.
Expanding Digital Reach
This expansion means nearly 25% of the district's government-run schools will now have access to technology-enabled teaching. Each smart classroom costs an estimated Rs 71,000 to set up. They will feature interactive digital tools designed to make learning more engaging and student-friendly.
Project Implementation
The Social Empowerment and Development Society (SEEDS) will implement the project. This private agency is empanelled by the state government. Work will cover all 11 development blocks in the Prayagraj district.
Vikas Pandey, the District Coordinator of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, provided details. He said smart classes are already operational in 526 government schools. Another 66 were developed under the Smart City project.
"With the addition of 100 new schools, the total number of institutions with smart classrooms will rise to 692," Pandey stated.
Equipment and Selection
Every new classroom will receive a K-YAN all-in-one device. This unit comes with a 1 KVA UPS to ensure an uninterrupted power supply. Officials selected only schools with an enrolment of at least 100 students for this upgrade.
The K-YAN device is often called the "Knowledge Vehicle." It integrates several components:
- A computer
- A projector
- Speakers
- An interactive board
This single unit can turn any wall into a digital screen. It supports multimedia lessons, animations, and video conferencing. The device delivers curriculum-based content in a simple plug-and-play format.
Distribution Across Blocks
Basic Shiksha Adhikari Anil Kumar outlined the distribution plan for the new facilities:
- Koraon block will get 10 schools.
- Pratappur and Saidabad blocks will receive 8 schools each.
- Kaudihar, Shringverpur, Baharia, Dhanupur, Chaka, and Manda blocks will get 7 schools each.
- Uruwa block will have 6 schools.
- Phulpur block will receive 5 schools.
Current Educational Landscape
At present, 348,804 students study in 2,832 government schools across the district. They are taught by 11,328 teachers. This maintains a teacher-student ratio of 1:31.
Education officials strongly believe this digital initiative will make a substantial difference. They expect it to significantly improve learning outcomes. It should also boost digital literacy among students in rural areas of Prayagraj.
