Rajiv Gandhi University and ISRO's NRSC Forge Partnership for Lightning Research in Arunachal Pradesh
In a significant move to bolster scientific inquiry into extreme weather events, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), a key division of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). This collaboration is specifically focused on investigating lightning phenomena and related atmospheric processes within the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Enhancing Understanding of Thunderstorms and Lightning Hazards
The primary objective of this partnership is to deepen the scientific comprehension of lightning and thunderstorms, which present substantial risks to life, property, and critical infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh. The state's unique geographical features, including its rugged mountainous terrain and monsoon-driven wind circulation patterns, exacerbate these threats, making such research particularly urgent and vital.
According to an official report released by RGU, this initiative aims to leverage advanced remote sensing technologies and data analysis techniques to study atmospheric dynamics in detail.
