RIMS Announces Free NEET Coaching Initiative for Government School Students
In a significant move to promote educational equity, the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi has launched a pioneering free coaching program aimed at helping government school students across Jharkhand crack the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), commonly known as NEET (UG). This initiative is specifically designed to bridge the gap between privileged and underprivileged medical aspirants by providing high-quality academic resources at no cost.
Program Details and Selection Process
The program will select 30 students from government schools throughout the state. According to Dr. Shishir Kumar, the nodal officer for the NEET (UG) coaching project, the decision was made during the 62nd meeting of the RIMS governing body. The primary goal is to encourage economically weaker yet meritorious students from Jharkhand to pursue medical education. Applications will open on April 6, with selection on a first-come, first-served basis due to resource constraints this year.
"For the initial year, we are not conducting any selection exam due to resource crunch. But from next year, we might hold an exam to select aspirants," Kumar explained. Selected students must arrange their own accommodation and meals, as the program strictly offers academic support.
Mentorship and Academic Support
The coaching will feature mentorship from current RIMS students who have successfully cleared NEET (UG) and secured seats at the medical college. These volunteers bring firsthand experience and insights into effective exam preparation strategies. Kumar noted that many students from different batches have already volunteered to serve as mentors.
"As they have already cleared NEET (UG) and secured their seats at the medical college, they know very well how to prepare for the exam. So we thought of selecting our students as mentors for the initiative," he said.
Timeline and Application Procedure
After the selection process concludes in April, classes are scheduled to begin in May, targeting NEET (UG) 2027. Interested students can apply by visiting the official RIMS website and filling out the available form. The coaching sessions will be held at a designated location on the RIMS campus, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
This initiative not only provides free academic guidance but also fosters a supportive community through mentorship, aiming to empower underprivileged students to achieve their dreams in the medical field.
