SPPU Students Excel at International Research Convention, Securing Multiple Awards

Students from colleges affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) have achieved remarkable success at the International Student Research Convention, Anveshan–2025, held recently. This prestigious event, organized by the Association of Indian Universities, aims to identify and nurture research talent among students in higher educational institutes.

Health Sciences Category: Gold Medal and Cash Prize

In the health sciences and allied subjects category, Siddhi Joshi and Tanisha Kasbe from AISSMS College of Pharmacy clinched the first prize, along with the Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Gold Medal and a cash award of Rs 75,000. Their winning project, titled "PROHEAL – an innovative, multifunctional probiotic based dressing system for diabetic wounds," represents a significant advancement in wound care.

This probiotic-based dressing system is specifically designed for diabetic foot injuries, featuring a two-layer structure that efficiently absorbs wound discharge while delivering medication directly to the wound site. This innovative approach promotes faster and more effective healing, addressing a critical need in healthcare.

Rahul Padalkar from AISSMS College of Pharmacy highlighted the institution's consistent performance, stating, "The college has set a new record by winning this competition three times in the past six years, along with awards at second and third positions."

Agriculture Science Category: Third Prize for Innovative Machine

In the agriculture science and allied fields category, Shivam Devkar of Sanjivani College of Engineering, Kopargaon, secured the third prize and a cash award of Rs 25,000. His project, "High-Performance Multipurpose Mulching Paper Laying Machine," introduces a cost-effective farm implement that streamlines agricultural operations.

Devkar's machine performs four essential tasks: bed preparation, drip pipe laying, fertiliser feeding, and mulching sheet placement. By automating these processes, it significantly reduces labour, time, and per-acre costs, offering a practical solution for modern farming challenges.

University Leadership Praises Student Achievements

Vinayak Joshi, Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at SPPU, commended the students' efforts in a statement to the media. He said, "This success showcases the effectiveness of our quality-driven research mentoring framework. The students' dedication, coupled with strong faculty guidance, has resulted in globally competitive research outcomes. We are proud of their excellence and commitment."

The achievements at Anveshan–2025 underscore SPPU's commitment to fostering innovation and research excellence among its students, positioning them as leaders in their respective fields on an international stage.
