Tezpur University Plans Expansion and New Departments

Tezpur University has initiated comprehensive preparations for the 2026-27 academic session, outlining future expansion plans and major academic initiatives. Pro-vice-chancellor Prof. Amarendra Kumar Das, currently serving as in-charge vice chancellor, announced that the state government is in the process of handing over an additional plot of land under the Naduar constituency to facilitate further expansion of the university’s academic activities.

In addition, proposals are underway to establish a new centre of Tezpur University at Bhairabkunda in Udalguri district and to introduce a department of Bodo language at the university. Prof. Das stated that the university is awaiting University Grants Commission (UGC) approval to open seven new departments: economics, psychology, political science, geography, performing arts, and vocational studies & skill development. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Education has approved a department of tribal studies, which will be made operational soon.

Dean of research and development Prof. Soumik Roy said the dean’s office is continuing to strengthen the university’s research environment through strategic collaborations, funded projects, and innovation-led initiatives. The university has also built several national and international collaborations.
