Uttar Pradesh's Cultural Ambassador Program Expands Across 261 Colleges
In a significant push to integrate cultural education into higher learning, Uttar Pradesh has launched a structured initiative to develop students as 'Yuva Cultural Ambassadors'. This program, now supported across 261 colleges statewide, represents a major investment in fostering cultural awareness and artistic skills among the youth.
Financial Support and Phased Implementation
Over the past three years, the state government has allocated approximately Rs 1.16 crore in financial assistance to government, aided, and postgraduate institutions. This sustained funding underscores a long-term commitment to making culture an essential component of campus life, rather than a temporary project.
The initiative is being rolled out in carefully monitored phases, ensuring scalability and continuity. During the 2023-24 academic year, 68 colleges received an initial instalment of Rs 50,000 each. This group included 35 government colleges, 25 aided colleges, and eight postgraduate institutions.
In 2024-25, the program expanded significantly, with 122 colleges receiving a first instalment of Rs 50,000 each. This broader reach encompassed 42 government colleges, 58 aided colleges, and 23 postgraduate colleges. Additionally, to support ongoing activities, a second instalment of Rs 30,000 each was released to 71 colleges in the same period.
Diverse Cultural Activities and Skill Development
The Cultural Clubs established under this initiative are promoting a wide array of activities designed to engage students creatively and intellectually. These include:
- Debates and speeches on cultural topics
- Poetry recitations and cultural discussions
- Classical and folk music performances
- Traditional dance and theatre productions
- Artistic endeavors like rangoli, painting, and poster-making
Beyond artistic participation, the program aims to familiarize students with India's rich traditions, customs, attire, social values, and cultural practices. Officials report that the initiative is helping students build confidence, leadership abilities, and organizational skills through event management, collaboration, and cultural exchanges.
Connecting with Local Heritage
Outreach activities play a crucial role in the program's success. Students participate in heritage walks, padyatras (foot marches), educational visits to historical sites, and festival celebrations. These experiences directly connect young people with local traditions and community practices, fostering a deeper appreciation for their cultural roots.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized that this initiative reflects Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of education that extends beyond textbooks. The program seeks to create well-rounded individuals who appreciate and contribute to cultural preservation.
Additional Chief Secretary Amrit Abhijat highlighted the program's broader objectives: "This initiative is designed to build pride and awareness among students, preparing a generation capable of carrying India's heritage forward with confidence and knowledge."
