VNSGU Completes Comprehensive Campus Biodiversity Documentation Project
In a significant academic initiative, the departments of biosciences and fine arts at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) have successfully documented the rich biodiversity of their university campus through an intensive five-day photography project. This groundbreaking effort has culminated in the official release of a comprehensive book that showcases the remarkable findings from this ecological survey.
Extensive Species Documentation Through Student Photography
During the carefully organized exercise, participating students captured photographic evidence of more than 50 distinct species of insects, 20 different species of birds, and approximately 40 varieties of flora and medicinal plants thriving across the lush green campus environment. The activity was conducted under the expert guidance and supervision of dedicated faculty members who provided both scientific direction and technical support throughout the documentation process.
Official Book Launch Ceremony
Surat police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut formally launched the publication titled "Capturing Campus Biodiversity" during a special ceremony held on Tuesday. The event was attended by VNSGU vice-chancellor Kishorsinh Chavda and other distinguished university officials. The newly released book features high-quality photographs accompanied by detailed information about each documented species, including their rarity status and ecological importance within the campus ecosystem.
Expert Guidance and Interdisciplinary Approach
The innovative biodiversity documentation initiative was guided by Prof Kailash Patel from the department of biosciences and Prof Ankit M Changawala from the department of fine arts. These faculty members emphasized the dual significance of their approach, highlighting both the scientific importance of systematic biodiversity mapping and digital record maintenance, while simultaneously integrating artistic perspectives to enhance the visual quality and aesthetic appeal of the final publication.
Addressing the gathering during the launch ceremony, Commissioner Gahlaut shared his personal knowledge of wildlife and extensive experience in wildlife photography. He actively encouraged students to develop the valuable habit of systematically documenting their environmental observations, emphasizing how such practices contribute to both personal growth and broader ecological understanding.
