Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan delivered a powerful address at the 8th convocation ceremony of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST) in Sonipat on Sunday, urging graduating students to spearhead India's forthcoming era of development through innovation, technology, and responsible nation-building.
Tribute to Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram's Legacy
Radhakrishnan began by paying homage to Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram, commemorating him as an enduring symbol of integrity, social justice, and visionary leadership. He emphasized that Chhotu Ram dedicated his entire life to uplifting farmers and marginalized communities, thereby establishing a robust agrarian framework that continues to benefit the nation.
Celebrating Academic Excellence and Gender Parity
In his congratulatory remarks to the graduating cohort, the Vice-President highlighted the remarkable strides in gender equality within higher education. He revealed that nearly 64% of gold medallists at the ceremony were women, with women constituting approximately 50% of the total participants. This statistic underscores the growing and impactful participation of women in academic and professional spheres.
Embracing Technology and Indigenous Solutions
Radhakrishnan articulated that India is advancing through a triad of innovation, self-reliance, and homegrown solutions. He passionately encouraged students to actively engage with cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, quantum computing, and green technology. Caution Against Substance Abuse and Emphasis on Character
The Vice-President issued a stern warning to the youth regarding the perils of substance abuse, stressing that authentic success must be anchored in strong character, unwavering integrity, and resilience. He reminded attendees that technological prowess alone is insufficient without a solid ethical foundation.
Governor and Chief Minister Reinforce Educational Vision
Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh addressed the gathering, asserting that a convocation transcends mere degree conferral; it is about embracing responsibility in a dynamically evolving India. He identified the nation's youth as its paramount asset and advocated for heightened involvement in startups, research initiatives, digital literacy, and innovation ecosystems.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini outlined Haryana's commitment to fortifying higher education and research to foster self-reliant and globally competitive youth. He announced a significant allocation of ₹20 crore under the Haryana State Research Fund, which attracted over 350 proposals for the 2025-26 period, with roughly 90 being shortlisted. An additional ₹20 crore has been earmarked to further catalyze research and innovation endeavors across the state.
