Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Zilla Parishad (ZP) has announced a special survey to identify adult illiterates in the district. The survey will be conducted from June 15 for five days, targeting citizens aged 15 years and above who cannot read or write.

Survey Under New India Literacy Programme

ZP CEO Minnu PM stated that the survey is part of the New India Literacy Programme (NILP), also known as ULLAS (Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram). This centrally sponsored adult education scheme aligns with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

“The main objective of the programme is to make illiterate persons aged 15 years and above literate. Education is imparted to identified beneficiaries with the help of volunteers,” she said.

Focus Areas of the Programme

The CEO explained that the adult education scheme emphasizes basic literacy and numeracy, life skills, vocational skills, basic education, and continuing education.

Target for 2026-27

Under the programme, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has been given a target of making over 47,000 adult illiterate persons literate by the year 2026-27.

Implementation at Village Level

The ZP administration has instructed all Sarpanchs and Gram Panchayat-level officers to prepare a list of illiterate persons in their respective villages. The official database of identified beneficiaries will be uploaded on the ULLAS portal of the government.
