Telangana SSC Exam Scandal: 7 Teachers Suspended for Leaking Hindi, Telugu Papers

In a major breach of academic integrity, seven government teachers from Nizamabad district in Telangana have been suspended for allegedly leaking Hindi and Telugu second language question papers while the SSC (Class 10) examinations were underway across the state on Wednesday.

Exam Papers Go Viral on Social Media Mid-Test

The leaks were reported from two examination centers: the Zilla Parishad High Schools (ZPHS) in Aloor and Mendora. According to education department officials, the test papers went viral on social media platforms after being shared by staff members through WhatsApp, approximately halfway through the examination that commenced at 9:30 AM.

"According to preliminary investigation we suspect that these teachers knew some students at the centres whom they were trying to help. They sent the papers to someone outside on WhatsApp and asked them to send answers. It doesn't look like they did this for monetary gains," stated P Ashok, District Education Officer (DEO) of Nizamabad, in an interview with TOI.

Suspension Orders and Police Action

Initially, the DEO had ordered the suspension of nine teachers, but two suspensions were revoked after it was determined that papers were not leaked from a third suspected center: Government Junior College in Bodhan. The suspended individuals include two gazetted headmasters, B Rajendhar and P Mamatha; school assistants T Vijay Kumar, G Ravinder, and Ch Bupathi; and secondary grade teachers P Umender and N Sagar.

School assistants K Venu and A Shivananda Rao from Bodhan were also suspended initially, but that order was withdrawn when investigation revealed that the paper from the Bodhan center was circulated only after the exam concluded at 12:45 PM.

Based on complaints from Mandal Education Officers (MEOs), Nizamabad police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 3, 4(A), and 5 (read with 8) of the Telangana Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractice and Unfair Means) Act, 1997 against the implicated teachers.

Investigation Details and Official Response

"In the Aloor incident, we have found that the teacher tried to help Urdu medium students who were appearing for the Telugu exam. He shared the question paper over WhatsApp," explained P Satyanarayana, Inspector of Aloor (town), noting that authorities are still verifying whether any teachers transmitted answers to students.

In an official statement, A Krishna Rao, Director of Government Exams for Telangana, disclosed that the matter was first brought to attention around 12:15 PM by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, who observed the Telugu question paper circulating on WhatsApp groups in the Bodhan area.

"Immediately, the officials concerned, including MEOs and the flying squad staff, were instructed to investigate the matter," he said, adding, "Our probe showed that some invigilators engaged in malpractice. Consequently, disciplinary actions were taken against them based on the investigation report submitted to the collector."

Broader Implications for Exam Integrity

This incident raises serious concerns about the security protocols surrounding state board examinations in Telangana. The SSC exams are a critical milestone for thousands of students, and such leaks undermine the fairness and credibility of the entire evaluation process.

Education authorities have emphasized that stringent measures will be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future, including enhanced monitoring of examination centers and stricter penalties for malpractice. The case highlights the challenges of maintaining exam integrity in the digital age, where social media can rapidly disseminate sensitive information.
